Rochon was raised in the Los Angeles suburb of Torrance and is the daughter of Zelma, a nurse practitioner and Samuel Staples, a business proprietor and graphic artist. Cerritos high school in Cerritos is where she received her degree from. Her graduation was in 1986 at California State University Dominguez Hill (CSUDH) with an undergraduate degree in Broadcast Journalism. She also majored in Sociology and Theatre. Rochon was back at CSUDH in the year 2016 she was the keynote speaker for CSUDH's College of Arts and Humanities the commencement ceremony.

She hosted for Garage Squad, a Discovery MotorTrend Network series, Street Tuner Challenge which is a Speed TV show, and she starred on Jay Leno's Garage. Heather's digital travel program, Drive Yourself Local is the name of a show where she drives across America in the 1965 Ford Mustang and shares small towns' stories. Heather has appeared on numerous films and television shows, including Nightingale and Epic Movie.

Ullerup first made an appearance first in Battlestar Galactica remake, the Sci Fi Channel's 2006 television show. She played Julia Brynn. In the first two seasons of Sanctuary the actress was Ashley Magnus until the character was eliminated. Her departure caused heated debate among the fans. A lot of people wanted the character back for a future episodes. However, the show ended in 2012. Ullerup appeared in Chesapeake Shores as Bree O'Brien. Ullerup was chosen to play Maggie Thomas, Michael Thomas the estranged wife, as well in Asteroid: Final Impact (2005). Since the year 2016 Ullerup has been playing a regular role as Dale Travers in Hallmark's Signed, Sealed, Delivered movies series.
